Port Antonio (A64) was the chief tovvn in the parish of Portland, situated on the north-east coast
about 60 miles from Kingston. The town has an interesting history, being founded in 1723, and to
encourage jts growth immigrants were offered a free gift of two barrels of beef and one of flour,
together with 5 years' exemption from taxation - an early tax-free zone indeed.
This entire from a Mr. Peter Fraser to Messrs, Hill & Airey, solicitors, was written and posted on
October 7th 1859 and delivered the following day. The writer was discussing recording the stamp
necessary for a Power of Attorney and for the probate ofa Will.
