Ocho Rios (A60) was a mail-coach office in the parish of St. Ann and its name probably
originates from the Spanish ' choreira' meaning ' a spout from a waterfall '. Llandovery Falls,
which were depicted on a Jamaican stamp in 1900, were situated nearby. Like many other
postmasters in Jamaica, Mr. Mesquita at Ocho Rios held the post for many years - in this instance
from 1848 for the next 30 years.
This cover to Edinburgh with its smudged numeral cancelJer, has the eds for Ocho Rios dated
November 91" 1859 on the reverse. It transited Kingston the next day and London on December 1st
arriving in Edinburgh on December 2"d.
