Rio Bueno (A70) in the parish of Trelawney, was once an important shipping roadstead but had
become a bit of a backwater. The Spaniards founded and named the town, and it was near here in
1658 that they were defeated in battle by the troops of General Doyley. The postmaster appointed
in 1855 held the post for 24 years, but the amount of business transacted was always small.
This cover left Rio Bueno on November 9th 1859 - note the inverted ' 8' in 1859 in Kingston's eds
- and is backstamped London on December Ist.
