                  Overseas Post: Foreign Countries,  contd.

     ARGENTINA, contd.
       Prohibitions: Arms and ammunition, letters,  books,  printed  matter and  illus­
     trations of a Communistic nature, charged butane gas lighters and refills, chemical
     products, coin, currency notes, securities payable to bearer; foreign lottery tickets,
     plants,  narcotics (except  to authorised  bodies) valuables; worn colthing may  be
     sent if accompanied by  a certificate of  disinfection from a competent authority
     and  authenticated  by  an  Argentine  consular  officer  (parcels containing  worn
     clothing should not be sent frequently to the same addressee).
       Restrictions: Arms; drugs; plants and seeds.
       Gift parcels containing any type of merchandise may be sent to private persons
     provided that:
        (a)  the value of the contents docs not exceed 5 U.S. dollars;
        (b)  they  are  for  the  personal  use  of the  addressee  and  not  intended  for
           resale;
        (c)  not more  than  one parcel  containing  the same type  of merchandise  is
           sent each year to the same addressee.
      The  contents  of gift  parcels  are  subject  to  ordinary  customs  duties  but  are
     exempted  from  import  surcharges  if the value  does  not  exceed  5  U.S.  dollars.
     Parcels  containing  merchandise  valued  between  5  and  10  U.S.  dollars  may  be
     admitted at the discretion  of the Argentine Customs but most goods arc subject
     to  heavy  surcharges.  Gift  parcels  must  be  clearly  marked  “Obsequio  para
     persona particular".
      Invoice:  Two copies of a Commercial invoice arc required for;
        (a)  Printed matter, books, newspapers, magazines, etc.
        (b)  Non-commercial consignments up to the value of U.S. $5.00
        (c)  Samples up to the value of 550 Argentine pesos sent to any commercial
           firm registered with the Customs in Buenos Aires.
      The invoice must include a declaration signed by the sender or his  authorised
     representative, as follows:—
         “I declare on oath that all the information given in this invoice is true and
         that the prices indicated are those that have been really paid (or will have
         to be paid). I declare also that no arrangements have been made that would
         make possible any  alterations in these prices”.
      Packing:  Insured  parcels  should  be  packed  in  outer  covers  of  canvas  or
     similar material.  Each article of celluloid or roll of film must be packed separate­
     ly.
      Delivery:  Parcels  are  not  delivered  to  the  place  of address.  Addressees  nor­
     mally have to collect them  from the nearest Custom depot  but may arrange for
    collection from the Post Office of destination.  A charge for handling is levied at
    the time the parcels are handed over.

      Dutiable articles  may  be  sent  by  letter  post  and  in  small  packets—up  to
    S100 green label required, thereafter top green label and form C2/CP3.
