As the new obliterators were only to be used on GB stamps for 17 months, it is not surprising that
genuine items of posta1 history tend to be scarce. However, Black River was a busy office and
here are 2 letters from John Cooper to his employers in Liverpool.
This Jetter was written on March 10th 1859 and has a Black River eds for that day. It transitted
Kingston on the 12th , with the correct postal rate for the UK and arrived in London on April 5th
and Liverpool the next day. It was answered 10 days later.
