ft was only during the month of February 1859 that GB stamps were allowed to be used for
internal Jamaican mai1 without being cancelled by the new numeral obliterators, in this case A39,
which started on March 1st. The instruction from the Postmaster in Kingston to the outlying
offices was to impress the letter with their datestamp, leaving the Kingston 'A01 ' to cancel the
stamp. This letter, dated February 15th 1859, arriving in Kingston 93 miles away on the following
day, was thus incorrectly marked.
