Falmouth was the chieftown ofTrelawney parish, its population in 1911 being over 2,000. Like

Black River, it possessed a busy post office with the postmaster receiving about£ 150 annually,

based on 15% of the business transacted.

This double rate letter to Kingston was written and posted on August 26th 1859, received the next

day and answered on the 2 9 1 - a quicker reply than from many other correspondents. Foster
