This second type of obliterator was in use from May 1859 until the end of 1870. Unlike the third
obi iterator which was rarely used as it needed a separate date-stamp (only ten examples of this
third type are known on cover), this second type was popular with the postal clerks, as the date-
stamp was included. This cover shows the postal rate for inland letters to addresses within 60
miles ofKingston @ 4d. per Y2 oz.
When these obliterators were withdrawn in the late 1880's from Jamaica, some were used by the
Foreign Branch of the London G.P.0.
