Prior to about August 1843, inland postage on packet letters had to be prepaid, but at that time, the
new 'all-in' rate of l 2d. was introduced and this meant that the correct packet rate from post
towns was 1'2d whiJe it cost only l - from Kingston.
This letter is backstamped ·Kingston' dated December 29th 1850 with a London arri\ial mark
dated January 23ni 1851.
