GB stamps were banned from use on August 1st 1860 and for the next four months mail was
prepaid but not with adhesives. The first Jamaican issue was available on November 23rd - the so-
called ' pine' issue as the watermark was a pineapple - and this cover shows one on a cover to
Scotland, dated January 8111 l 863.
