Mandeville (A53) is the chief town of the parish of Manchester, which was named after the Duke
of Manchester who was Governor of Jamaica from 1808 to 1837, and Mandeville was the name of
his eldest son. The town itself was built like an English village with a green and a church with a
low square tower.
This part-entire left Mandeville on May 20th t 859 and arrived in Kingston, 58 miles away, the
fo11owing day.
