The writer of this letter, a junior naval officer named Alexander Sanderson, descnbe - to his father
his journeys around the West Indies and regrets that promotion seems to be far off.
At the time, he was on H.M.S. Magnificent stationed at Port Ro)al. Jamaica and the letter is dated
February 20th 1831. The postal rate was 2 6d. and the letter is marked with a Falmouth receiver
on April 6th (in green) and an Edinburgh transit on April 9lh on its way to Aberdeen
This Falmouth mark was used on 'Late Fee' or 'Loose Letter' correspondence.
