A42 had originally been granted to a small office called Golden Spring, but after the re-shuffle of
1862 it was aJJocatcd to Gordon Town.
This mourning cover, having three pine 4d. with inverted watermarks, is back-stamped with a
Gordon Town (p5) mark dated July 24th 1871 . a Kingston mark for the same day and a Portsmouth
eds dated August 11 111• Being addressed to Lt.Col.Kent, 77th regiment at Clarence barracks at
Portsmouth, it left Jamaica on July 25111 •
