Jamaica Registration: Registration Labels.
Labels applied by other postal administrations.
Registered letters, and before them, money letters, were numbered by post offices. Many letters
acquired an array of different manuscript numbers in transit. From 1883 the UPU expected countries
to apply a prominent letter R either on a label or imprinted. The UPU prescribed labels that combined
the letter R and printed numbers from 1 January 1899, but permitted postponement. Britain was late
in adopting this system in 1907, and Jamaica did not introduce registration labels until 1908. In the
interim, post to and from Jamaica acquired the labels of other countries.
