      Prohibitions:  Articles  and  samples  liable  to  customs  duty  except  in  small
    packets;  chewing gum,  printed  matter, corrected  proofs with  marked  words  or
    phrases; documents, photographs, pictures and so on, prejudicial to Soviet views;
    fresh fruits and vegetables; narcotics; postage stamps for private persons; Soviet
    coin and monetary documents except under permit; sulphate of copper.
      Restrictions:  Drawings,  printed  matter,  photographs,  films,  manuscripts,
    printers  blocks, and  gramophone records arc admitted only  by authority of the
    Soviet Authorities. Exceptionally, however, technical and scientific literature  and
    periodicals not  intended for sale sent to Soviet trusts, syndicates or Government
    departments, and single copies of books, periodicals and so on sent by publishers,
    booksellers  and  other  firms  to  private  persons  are  admitted  without  permit.
    Medicines arc admitted only if accompanied  by a prescription issued by a doctor
    in the  U.S.S.R. and  bearing the stamp and  seal of a Soviet  health centre; seeds,
    plants and  parts of plants arc admitted  only  if addressed  to  a recognized  insti­
    tution.

      Customs declarations: 2 forms C2/CP3 and  1 despatch note required written in

     Russian,  French and English.
      Insurance: Limit S230.

    hermetically  sealed  containers;  printed  matter;  corrected  proofs  with  marked
    words  or  phrases;  documents,  photographs,  pictures  and  so  on prejudicial  to
    Soviet  views,  fresh  fruits  and  vegetables;  military  materials;  postage  stamps;
    Soviet coin  and  monetary documents except  under permit;  sulphate of copper,
     used clothes;  clothing and footwear,  medicines to private persons, chewing gum.
      Restrictions:  Books,  pictures,  maps,  music or  other  printed  matter;  meat  in
    any  form;  medicines other than to  private  persons are admitted only  if accom­
     panied by a prescription issued by a doctor in the U.S.S.R. and bearing the stamp
    and seal of a Soviet health centre; narcotics, seeds, plants and parts of plants are
    admitted only if addressed to a recognized institution.
      Import Licences are required for all commercial parcels and an invoice must be
    enclosed in every parcel.  Licences are also necessary for most other parcels.
      Gift parcels:  Small  quantities  of certain  articles  may  be  imported  without  a
     licence up to specified  limits, provided they are intended  for the personal use  of
     the addressee. Gift parcels may not contain  perishable  food, foodstuff in herme­
     tically  sealed  or  glass  containers;  spirits,  cloth  cuttings,  thread,  photographic
     apparatus or watches.
      Packing: Parcels must be strongly packed.
