POW 4 . LETTER IN --------
This is an unframed handstamp worded LETTER IN , 2~ x 18mm in block serif type with a
a row of dots followi ng . The writer had to complete the marking, which struck in purple
ink, by stating the l anguage in which the letter was written . This marking, written i n
manuscript appears on earlier covers .
EKD : 9 June 1941 LKD : 22 November 1944

Cover to the U.S . A. bearing POW 4 showing POW 4 at the top left, together with POW 8,
the POSTAGE PAID marking and POW 7 , PRISONERS OF WAR POST. The cover also bears D 5
Postal Censor ship handstamp , all the markings being struck in purple ink. The reverse
bears POWC 3 dated the 7 ~ June , 1942 .
