MILITARY CENSORSHIP HANDSTAMPS
OF THE CANADIAN ARMY.
made of rubber, and which was probably intended to be
applied on all mail. However, this handstamp is but
rarely seen and has been designated M-CA 1, although in an
eaFly article on the subject Mr. Poster had provisionally
designated it M-CA 2. However, it now appears that the
handstamp previously designated M-CA 1, was bo1h a Unit
hand stamp and a censor hand stamp, and hence Tom Foster
~a-designated this handstamp M-CAC 1. as referred to in this
Section.
The other two bandstamps Teferred to above are o£ British
origin, but are found applied to Canadian Army mai~, and
no doubt others exist. ~he first of these is the 7.R.D.
type of handstamp with the wording '•MILITARY POST/UP "PARK
CAMP", the words being separated by two dots. 'l'he second
is the British Army handstamp M-AC 4, Number 4, but when
applied -to Canadian Army mail these two latter hands-tamps
have been given the provisional references M-CA 2 and M-CA~
respectively.
Finally, there are set out below the particulars of
the Canadian bat-talions or regiments which .from time to
time comprised '~Y Force", together wi-th -the dates of th.eir
tours of duty in ~amaica. It should be remembered,
however, that letters with a particular Unit's handstamp
can be £ound outside the dates given, as there would be both
advance and rear parties of the Unit in the island.
