FIRST REGULAR POST CARDS - THE PROCESS

          The timetable from initial enquiry to delivery which shows the production was extremely fast!

7 April 1877 Sullivan to Secretary of State in London requesting postcards and enclosing New Zealand example.

1 May          Secretary of State authorises Crown Agents to proceed.

2May           Crown Agents invite De La Rue to provide q_uotes.

4May           De La Rue submits samples based on NZ card printed on both English Thin & English Stout Paper.

16May          Crown Agents order the printing plates (plate proofs below) and supply ofcards on

               English thin paper.

22 Sept Printing is complete but De La Rue continues to extol the virtues of the more expensive English

               Stout Card and encloses samples for consideration. Copy of letter and the samples on Stout

               Card are shown on the following sheets.

26 Sept.       Invoice submitted for 19,320 ~d cards, 47,736 ld cards and 28,560 3d cards supplied with

               wrappers in bundles of 12 cards. Wrapper proofs - see later sheet

14 November Regular post cards on sale in Jamaica, although exact date of release is unknown.
