Stewart Town - A77 - This was a smaJl office which did little trade - only 3 covers are known
which originated there. It was one of the 'free villages' founded by the missionary societies, later
developing a lively market.

Vere - A78 - This was the last numeral obliterator to be used on GB stamps in Jamaica. The
Jamaican authorities had always been reluctant to assume control of the postal affairs as the
G.P.O. , London was losing £500 p.a. on the Jamaican account. However, on August 1st 1860 the
transfer was completed. In l 875 the name of this office was changed to Al1ey.
