EWARTON

Ewarton was allocated A38 in 1858 but closed soon after and no GB stamp was ever cancelled
with that number. When this office re-opened in 1873, it was given ' 196' which had earlier been
used at Chirk, Denbighshire.
This registered cover, backstamped with a eds 'Ewarton Ja 31st 1888', has a Jamaica registered
mark dated February 1st and a London arrival on the 20th. The 4d. registration fee was not reduced
to 2d. for inland and overseas mail until June 1893.
