The Royal Navy in Jamaica .
Section IV. Royal Navy Visits to Jamaica between the Wars .
Whilst no doubt many Royal Navy ships visited Jamaica during this period, there are
now shown f our covers whi ch commemorate visits by the Commander in Chief to Jamaica .
This officer usually made at least annual visits to the various bases under his
Command, the headquarters still being based at Bermuda .
RN 2 . H.M . S . DANAE .
The fi r st cover bear s a handstamp struck in black worded H. M. S . DANAE on the first
line , J AMAICA - B. W. I . on the second l ine and OCT 22/1934 on the last line , all in
mixed type of various sizes. Whil st the cover shows no direct evidence that this
ship was on a visit with the Commander in Chief, it is likely that he was on board as
his flagship was then usually one of the "Danae" class of cruiser.
