manuscnpt rare of 2 Od., part of a Bishop mark and some contemporary notes on the address
panel.
In the early da~s ofJamaican post, transoceanic mail ran the gauntlet of many hazards and a
prayer for safe deli' erance was often appended. This usually took the form of 'Q.D.C.' referring
either to the packet or its master In this case it refers to the captain and stands for 'Quern Deus
