                                                                                               marking (Proud Type PD14)
                                                                                                 on a piece of newspaper
                                                                                               addressed to Messrs Louise
                                                                                                     Winckler & Co.


                                                                                               This reply by George Pearce,
                                                                                              Postmaster from 1891 to 1903,
                                                                                               explained that the mark was
                                                                                              used on newspapers in bulk to
                                                                                               show that payment had been
                                                                                               made by postage stamps on
                                                                                                   the wrapper. Known
                                                                                                8 Feb 1889 to 7 Apr 1897.
