The red ‘1’ mark is recorded by
Foster as Type PD8.
Fifty handstamps of this type
were despatch to Jamaica and
Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1843 but
are not known used in Jamaica
until 1856. They were then used
to denote prepayment of the 1d
Newspaper and Printed Paper rate
to the UK and Empire.
After 1861 it was accompanied by
the adhesive.
