The ½d adhesive was introduced in 1872 to avoid the need for bisecting the 1d.
Up to 1 Sep 1869 the ½d rate applied to both book post and newspapers but after only to newspapers.
So the usage of the new adhesive was much reduced.
On 12 Apr 1873 the rate for circulars was announced at the same as book post ie 1d per oz (until 1887).
1877 Internal Book Post / Circular with ½d claret
May Pen 8 Nov 1877 to Alley 9 Nov 1877
Vere was renamed Alley on 15 Sep 1873 but this is the earliest recorded cds with the new name.
