The Cathedral Church of St. James (or St. Jago de la Vega) in Spanish Town
was originally constructed in 1523 and was the first Cathedral in the New World.
The British replaced it in 1666 and the current structure was raised in 1714 after its predecessor was destroyed by a hurricane.
The church is built of brick in the shape of a cross. The wooden steeple was added in 1831.
