Prisoner of War, Internment Camps and Gibraltar Camp, Jamaica .
Before leaving this Section some incoming covers are recorded. Most were transmitted
via England where they received United Kingdom censorship markings , on arrival a t the
Camp they usually recei ved the POWC 1 handstamp, which was used for both outgoing and
incoming mail . It should be mentioned that during World War II diff erent handstamps
were applied to these two categories o f mail .
A cover dated the 9 ~ March, 1915 is now shown which is from Danzig to the Camp . It
also bears Danzig Censorship Office and "Gepruft und geschlossen" handstamps together
with a P . C. United Kingdom handstamp . The reverse Kingston canceller of the 2 nd April ,
1915 and, on arrival at the Camp, POWC 1 . The Danzig re-sealing label has been lifted
to verify that no unauthorized message was concealed below .
Incoming mail is also extremely rare, however, a copy of the reverse is also shown .
