4d Design Die Proofs
Four die proof states of the 4d exist.
The 1st has uncleared surround, the 2nd has solid tips to the laurel leaves, which are lighter on the 3rd.
The final state can be identified by the cross-hatching in the triangles.

Ink Recipe
In the 1870s and later De La Rue documented the ink colour mix for each issue and printed dummy stamps.
