At this time air letter rates were only valid
to Commonwealth countries, i.e. not to USA.
The air letter rates were 6d or 9d depending on
the destination.
The standard letter rate to the USA was 8d.
raised from 6d to 8d on 1 Jan 1951.
The 6d adhesive therefore was underpaid.
The 2d adhesive added & reposted 30 Apr 1953.
The 1983 air mail rate
to the USA was 45c,
the letter must have
been over-weight as
the adhesives on the
obverse amount to 45c,
the letter was returned
to the originator
and another 45c of
adhesives added on the
reverse.
Insufficiently Paid ...
Th 1979 air letter rate to the USA
was 18c, so underpaid by 8c.
Fraction numerator of 16c
(double deficiency) fraction
denominator of 18c (correct rate).
The fine was refused and the letter
returned to sender.
