JAMAICA POSTAL CENSORSHIP

                                   Initial Terminal Censorship

  Two distinct types of the earliest resealing labels are found - the one shown here is the larger of the
two types, and has !arger lettering. The smallness of the labels meant that at least two had to be used

                                                          to seal envelopes.

                                                 1939 (4th September)
             lncoming Airmail Cover to Morant Bay from Prague, Czechoslovakia

This cover was mailed from Prague on 22nd August 1939, just over a week before the outbreak of war,
 and received a purple "D.K." currency control mark in Prague. lt was sent by air mail via New York,
     and on arrival in Jamaica it was opened by the Jamaica Censorship Service. The name of the
                                     recipient may have attracted particular attention.

 The envelope was resealed with two temporary resealing labels (JL1) printed on blue-green paper.

The reverse of the cover bears a Morant Bay circular datestamp recording arrival at its destination on
4th September- the day after Britain declared war on Germany. The letter was censored on or before
